Toy Box Monster Eats Mess

July 22, 2010 - 9:57 am

This concept (a 2010 IDEA design award winner) is a great way to encourage a bit of cleaning up. It’s not as cool as the Cat in the Hat’s cleaning machine, but it makes that end of the playdate clean-up time a bit more fun. You know Besides, who doesn’t want to toss their toys into that inviting monster mouth!

Guitar Hero meets Hop Scotch

July 20, 2010 - 8:50 pm

This is a fun physical project. The project is basically Guitar Hero meets hopscotch. An interesting an unexpected match up that makes for a fun art installation. A bit too much work for my living room, but a cool project nonetheless. There’s video below as well.

Bamboo Kid Measuring Stick

April 15, 2010 - 9:12 pm

This is a nice looking way to track the kiddies’ growth. More lasting than a paper chart and more portable than a doorjam, this bamboo measuring stick is a nice addition to the kids room with a design that will evolve as they grow. Not cheap at $120, but it looks great.

Funny Dad-O-Graphic Blog.

April 9, 2010 - 9:46 am

I just came across this wonderful blog of dadhood inspired graphics by Gabriel Solomon. This one explaining the powerful lure of the screen to kids was particularly funny. But he’s got loads that are on point. Definitely worth checking out.

The Greenest Rocking Horse Ever

February 7, 2010 - 6:05 pm

For now, just a concept, but what a great way to harness your kid’s energy while they play. Rocco the Energy Pal is an entry in the Greener Gadgets design competition. Rocco teaches children about energy generation and conservation by converting kinetic energy created through rocking into electricity. The removable handles are a flashlight or a nightlight to stay up extra late – except, with all that rocking, they won’t be able to. Rocco 2.0 should include an iPod/phone charging adaptor under the mane.

They have a lot of votes, but need more to get to the top. You can see some other cool entries and vote for Rocco here.

The Smartest iPhone Case Ever

October 27, 2009 - 5:26 pm

SmrtCase subway DetailThe Smrtcase Glide for the iPhone 3G / 3G S has an integrated cardholder for a your most frequently used cards. It has this clever sliding design so that you can easily swipe your Metrocard without fumbling. The cool design allows you to stash your credit card, ID, etc, for those times when you want to travel wallet-free. They should change the company name to Geniuscase. The Blackberry version is coming soon.  More details on their Website. (Thanks for the tip Hilary who doesn’t have a blog.)

It's an ottoman! No, it's a fort! No, it's a tunnel!

October 23, 2009 - 10:00 pm

This convertible ottoman has countless uses. By day, it’s a see-saw/fort/castle/tunnel/lava pit/whatever they can imagine. By night, it’s an elegant place to rest tired feet. Jennifer Esposito designed this multi-use ottoman with both parents and kids in mind. More info on Jennifer Esposito’s Website.

Timer To Light by Jasper Hou

This is a great concept. And, if it goes into production, would be a useful nightlight on a time. And they have cool colors.
